Several roadways from Falconbridge to Lively were closed Friday night, for crews to clean up a sulphuric acid leak caused by a tanker truck.

Greater Sudbury Fire Services were called in response and with the assistance by the Greater Sudbury Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police and Glencore, had roadways reopened by Saturday morning, as stated in a tweet by Jesse Oshell, deputy fire chief.

The City of Greater Sudbury announced the closure around 1 a.m. June 5, affecting the Highway 17 bypass from Highway 17 east and Garson/ Coniston Road to Falconbridge. Some roads in Falconbridge may also have experienced temporary disruptions.

A press release issued around that time said there was no danger to the public, but residents were asked to avoid the area for crews to have space and time to complete any necessary clean up.

Those who live in the area were also asked not to touch any liquid found on or abutting the roadway and safely avoid driving over any liquids.
