Centre Victoria pour femmes hosts a commemoration for the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women Dec. 6.
The day remembers the murder of 14 young women at Polytechnique Montréal on Dec. 6, 1989.
According to the Status of Women Canada website, this act of violent misogyny shook our country and led Parliament to designate Dec. 6 as The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women.
This year’s local event takes place outdoors starting at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6 at 584 Clinton Ave. (LiUNA! Centre) in the Flour Mill.
People are welcome to take part in-person or tune in through a Facebook live event on the organization’s website.
Centre Victoria asks those taking part in person to wear a mask and respect social distancing.
The event also marks the wrap-up of Centre Victoria pour femmes’ 25th anniversary year.
