Sunshine List health care: Health Sciences North’s Sunshine List more than doubles to 713 people

The hospital paid $82,399,488 to its top earners last year, a $40M jump over 2019

Health Sciences North had 713 people who made more than $100,000 in 2020, according to the Sunshine List that was released on March 20 — that’s more than double the number who made the list in 2019.

The annual list tracks the salaries of public sector employees, and Sudbury health care workers had 349 entries on the 2019 list, with the majority working at Health Sciences North and nine Public Health Sudbury and Districts employees.

HSN dominates the health care sector on the Sunshine List in 2020, as it usually does. 

Public Health Sudbury & Districts had a total of 28 people on the 2020 list, paying a total of $3.5M to its top earners.

Rounding out the health care sector on the list is St. Joseph’s Health Centre, with 11 people.

The top 10 earners at Health Sciences North were:

  1. Dominic Giroux, president and CEO: $381,287

  2. Dr. Mark Henderson, chief of cardiology: $290,809

  3. Mark Hartman, senior VP patient experience and digital transformation: $290,809

  4. Max Liedke, senior VP and COO: $290,809

  5. Dr. John Fenton, chief of staff: $256,144

  6. Dr. Jason Prpic, medical director of the Centre for Pre-hospital Care: $228,979

  7. Anthony Keating, president and CDO of Foundations (fundraising): $220,932

  8. Konrad Leszczynski, chief physicist: $213,005

  9. Brenda Slywchuk, registered nurse: $209,133

  10. Lorraine Carrington, VP and chief nursing executive: $204,294.

At Public Health Sudbury, Dr. Penny Sutcliffe was the top earner at $346,324, followed by Renée St. Onge, the director of resources and research, who was paid $161,607. Stacey Laforest, the director of environmental health, was paid $155,297.

At St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Jo-Anne Palkovits, the president and CEO, was paid $260,190 in 2020. Kari Gervais, the VP of clinical services, was paid $168,568, while Barb Desjardins, the VP of corporate services was paid $167,819.
