Laurentian University came in ranked No. 16 on a list of 49 Canadian universities that were surveyed for marijuana use.

More than 23,000 students responded to an online survey conducted by Maclean's magazine. In total, 63.3 per cent of students surveyed said they have never used cannabis.

Laurentian students reported an overall percentage of 41.8 who have used marijuana, which ranked in the top third among schools that took part in the survey. It seems as though pot use among university students is more prevalent as you go east, with Bishop's University in Sherbrooke, QC coming in at No. 1 with 56.4 per cent of students saying they've used marijuana.

St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia was No. 2, at 55.4 per cent, and Acadia University, also in Nova Scotia, was third at 52.4 per cent. The only other school with more than 50 per cent of students surveyed saying they've used marijuana was the University of Victoria in British Columbia.

Among Ontario universities that took part in the survey, Laurentian ranked fifth, behind Queen's University (48.5%), Wilfrid Laurier University (48.4%), Lakehead University (46.1%), and Western University (42.1%).

Laurentian's rank was right around the same spot on the national level when it comes to daily weed smokers, coming in 17th, with 3.5 per cent of Laurentian students saying they use marijuana on a daily basis.

Sudbury's university did crack the top five when it comes to students who reported using marijuana a few times a week, with six per cent of students falling into the "a few times a week" category, ranking the school fifth on the list of 49 schools.

So we know what schools have the highest percentage of weed users, but what programs in specific have the highest propensity to get baked?

Journalism students missed out on the top spot by one, coming in second with 51 per cent of journalism students saying they're marijuana users. Drama students reported the highest percentage of marijuana use at 55.8 per cent.

Environmental science (50.6%), sociology (50.5%), and political science (46.3%) rounded out the top five for programs with the highest percentage of marijuana use.

If you're looking for weed smokers, you might want to steer away from the math department, as just 25 per cent of mathematics students reported using marijuana.

You can also participate in a little survey yourself (if you feel comfortable doing so), by commenting below what post-secondary school you attended, your program, and whether or not you smoked weed while you were there.
