A pair of local taekwondo clubs raised more than $5,000 combined for the CTV Lions Children's Christmas Telethon, which took place over the weekend.
On Dec. 2, Minnow Lake Place Taekwondo teamed up Capreol Kick’s Taekwondo to hold the annual Kick-A-Thon in support of the telethon.
Minnow Lake Place Taekwondo raised more than $3,400 and Capreol Kick’s Taekwondo raised more than $2,000.
“The students absolutely love taking part in the Kick-A-Thon every year, not only does it help give back our community, but more importantly it helps children have an amazing Christmas,” said Alex Mayotte, instructor at Minnow Lake Place Taekwondo, in a press release.
“I am extremely proud of each and every student, their hard work and dedication to this cause is amazing.”
The Kick-A-Thon consist of students, kids and adults of any age, kicking paddles with the goal to achieve as many kicks as possible in the three hours allowed. This year, about 40 students took part in the event.
Minnow Lake Place Taekwondo has raised more than $9,000 since 2015.
“This is a tradition the two clubs plan on continuing for many years to come,” said Mayotte.
