Conservation Sudbury holds its eighth annual Friends and Family Ice Fishing Day Feb. 16.

The event takes place from noon to 4 p.m. at the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area Nature Chalet.

That weekend is an Ontario Family Fishing weekend, so no fishing licenses are required.

Ice fishing activities include learning proper catch and release techniques and making your own ice fishing rod from a stick.

Ice augers, gear and free bait will be available courtesy of the OFAH Tackleshare program, Ramakko’s and the Sudbury Game and Fish Protective Association.

Round out the day with building a snowman or sculpture on the lake, or going for a snowshoe out on the lake or hiking trails. Snowshoes and maps will be available for free.

Warm up at any time at the Nature Chalet or by an outdoor fire and enjoy complimentary hot chocolate. All ages are welcome. No pre-registration is required.

Phone 705-674-8904 or email [email protected] for more information.
