Canada's best-known sex educator is being honoured by Laurentian University.

Sue Johanson, best known for giving frank advice to callers on her long-running cable TV program The Sunday Night Sex Show, will receive an honorary doctorate (letters) at the university's fall convocation, scheduled for Saturday in LU's Fraser Auditorium.

Johanson's show featured sex toy and book reviews and was highlighted by the advice she gave callers for a host of sexual issues, delivered with her frank style and humour. The show ran from 1984-2005.

Johanson also hosted a U.S.-based show from 2002-2008, entitled Talk Sex with Sue Johanson. It ran on Oxygen TV and followed a similar call-in format.

According to the show's website, Talk Sex continues to air in Brazil, Canada, Israel and in 20 European countries in five languages on ClubTV.

Aside from her duties as a sexual educator, Johanson is “a registered nurse, a mother, and a grandmother,” the website says. “She continues to tour universities and special events, lecturing on sexuality and answering a panoply of audience questions that runs the gamut from anal sex to zygotes.”

Penguin Books has published three of her books on the subject of sex: "Talk Sex;" "Sex is Perfectly Natural, But Not Naturally Perfect;" and, "Sex, Sex, and More Sex."

“Although Sue has retired from radio and television, she continues her life-long mission of sexual education in universities and colleges throughout North America,” the site said.
