Talks between Laurentian University administration and the Laurentian University Faculty Association (LUFA) will resume this afternoon, according to online statements by both parties.

“University administration and faculty are meeting today to discuss the two proposals on the table,” Laurentian University said on its Twitter account Tuesday.

The faculty association's website said Tuesday “talks are set to resume this afternoon.”

LUFA, which represents 380 full-time and 260 part-time faculty, went on strike at midnight Sept. 28, causing classes to be suspended on most of campus.

On Sunday evening, administration tabled two proposals that the university says takes alternative approaches to meeting the needs of both sides.

LUFA president Jim Ketchen told Sudbury.com Oct. 2 that the proposals are a “positive sign.”

“It's extremely positive they took the membership seriously, saw that the membership is resolved, strong and united,” he said.

“In the face of that, they've obviously sat down and said 'Let's get an offer together. Let's kick-start these negotiations, let's get them going.'”
