Health Sciences North Foundation hosted Taste St., the year’s first beach party at the Caruso Club on Friday, March 31.

Guests enjoyed an evening sampling some of the finest food and drinks from fantastic local businesses and bid on one of a kind items in our live and silent auctions, all while basking in the beach environment.

By the end of the night, $80,000 was raised to support the purchase of vital teaching equipment and the building of the new Learners Centre on the grounds of Health Sciences North (HSN).

Over the past four years, Taste St. has raised more than $280,000 to support HSN’s Learners Centre.

The Learners Centre is a thriving teaching facility where learners engage with tools, high-fidelity mannequins and state-of-the-art technology in order to practice scenarios that train both medical staff and students for real-life medical situations.

“Thanks to the incredible support from our donors, volunteers, sponsors, food and drink providers, attendees were treated to a fabulous evening,” said Mary Lou Hussak, Executive Director for Health Sciences North Foundation.

“Rave reviews have been flooding in and we look forward to next year’s Taste St.”

New this year, guests were able to witness a mobile simulation using Cut Suit technology. This dramatic, highly realistic simulation of first responders aiding a burn victim demonstrated how simulation can improve systems of care, collaboration between health care providers and provide better patient outcomes.

“What a fantastic evening. It was really special to see so many people out to support an event that my team and I are so passionate about. Thank you to all who help organize and support the event, to those who participated in the cut suit demonstration and everyone who stopped by the Sim Lab table,” said Dr. Rob Anderson, Medical Lead, Simulation Laboratory.

“A very special thank you to all the businesses who set up booths and donated to this cause and to the Health Sciences North Foundation team who worked so hard to make this such wonderful event for everyone.”

“On behalf of Health Sciences North Foundation, I would like to thank all who attended our fourth annual Taste St. event. The “Beach Party” was a big hit and it was a great fun filled evening,” said Alex Patterson, Chair, Health Sciences North Foundation.

“It was fantastic seeing everyone in their beach attire and keeping up with the theme – even taking pictures with the shark! Congratulations to Overtime Sports Bar and Grill who were voted Best Display. But I must say, to the venders, they were all impressive from having real beach sand to patio umbrellas. A real effort was put in by all, including the Sim Lab for their realistic demonstrations. Also, a big thank you to all the staff and volunteers that helped to organize and make our Taste St. event another successful evening.”
