TD Bank employees on strike

As a result of failed negotiations, employees of TD Canada Trust, members of the United Steel Workers union, are on strike.

Since 8 am this morning, 112 bank employees walked off the job to protest against their wages being tied to the bank's performance review system, a system that would see many employees go without a wage increase in 2007.

Staff representative, Jim Kmit, stated that the bank indicated the desire to return to the bargaining table on Sunday.

"We have agreed to meet with the bank but the strike will go ahead as planned... we will walk the picket lines until the members have ratified a new agreement," said Kmit.

TD Canada Trust is informing customers that banking transactions can still be done online, by phone, or at any ABM . For updated information or to find out which branches are open in the Greater Sudbury area, phone 1-877-483-8054.
