Interpaving issues statement on injured worker:

A worker was injured at an Interpaving Ltd. work site Tuesday morning. A spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour, Janet Deline, says the injured worker was caught between a building and paving equipment, sustaining injuries to his lower body. Interpaving issued a statement Tuesday evening, confirming the injury. "In response to recent media reports, Interpaving Limited confirms that an injury did occur at one of its sites today," said the statement from Interpaving. "A veteran and well respected employee injured his foot while operating an Asphalt Spreader. The injury has been deemed Non-Critical by the Ministry of Labour." Full story can be found here.

Police searching for missing teen:

The Greater Sudbury Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in locating 16-year old Seth Clark. He was last seen on Monday, July 24 at around 10 p.m. in the Minnow Lake area. There is a concern for his well-being. He is described as Caucasian, approximately 5-9 tall, weighing 160 lbs. with straight, medium length brown hair, and brown eyes. Anyone with information is asked to contact Police at 675-9171 or Crime Stoppers at 222-TIPS, online at www.sudburycrimestoppers.com or by texting TIPSUD and the information to CRIMES (274637).

Catch a flick in the park downtown:

Close to 50 Sudburians made their way to Memorial Park on July 25 for the first of three outdoor movies of the summer. Sudbury Indie Cinema is hosting a trio of  free outdoor film screenings in the park downtown and opened the mini series with a screening of Weirdos. The show was opened with a live music performance by Ashley Woodruff and Rob Murray. Check out some photos of the evening and find out what's up next on the schedule here

Serena Ryder headlines free Ontour concert in Bell Park:

Serena Ryder will headline a concert in Bell Park on Aug. 19 being put on as part of the Ontour concert series. Other performers at the event, which gets underway at 7 p.m., include Coleman Hell, Mia Martina, Jonathan Roy and the Nickel City's own Stef Paquette. As part of a year-long line-up of events marking Ontario's 150th anniversary celebrations, Ontario's free ONtour concert series will provide the soundtrack for the summer of 2017, stopping in more than 20 communities across Ontario and showcasing some of the province's brightest homegrown musical talent, said a press release from the province.

Can you help? 125 kids still on Send-A-Kid To Camp Program wait list:

For the past 34 years, the Sudbury Manitoulin Children's Foundation has been sending disadvantaged children to summer camp through its Send-A-Kid To Camp Program — 16,000 kids have participated to date. These children wouldn't otherwise get a chance to experience summer camp, as their parents couldn't afford it, said Anne Salter Dorland, executive director of the foundation. Children are referred to the Sudbury Manitoulin Children's Foundation through social service agencies — this year, the foundation received referrals of 722 kids aged five to 14. Unfortunately, 125 of these kids are still on a waiting list. Find out more here.

Bring your running shoes, and swim fins to Kivi Park:

Canaqua Sports will present its first ever SwimRun Challenge, taking place at Kivi Park on July 30.  The 19 km course will consist of alternating swim and run distances for participants to complete over a variety of terrain throughout Kivi Park, including Crowley Lake. Participants are asked to check in between 7 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.  on race day, with a mandatory athlete's meeting scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Race start time is 9 a.m. Find out more here.

The shoe fits: Sudburian is among the world's best cobblers:

The owner of Sudbury’s Heels 'n' Soles is now Canada’s first cobbler to place in the World Cup contest hosted by the Shoe Service Institute of America (SSIA). Although, Dan Frappier has been repairing shoes since 1988, this was the first time he decided to submit his work in a competition. Competitors had to submit two repaired shoes along with its unrepaired mate so the judges can critique the workmanship. Find more on this story here.

Hometown boy returns to the minor hockey coaching ranks:

Four years away was just long enough for local "AAA" hockey coach Kyle Doherty. A local product and one-time member of both the Oshawa Generals and NOJHL champion Rayside-Balfour Sabrecats, Doherty has been lured back to the minor hockey coaching ranks, selected to guide the 2017-2018 edition of the Nickel City Minor Peewee "AAA" Sons. Sudbury's first storytelling festival planned for October:

Planning is underway for Sudbury's first storytelling festival. Centre franco-ontarien de folklore will host Festival de contes de Sudbury — a French-language event — Oct. 13-14 at Collège Boréal. Four storytellers will perform each evening. On Oct. 13, the evening will be entitled "Nos Racines.” The second evening, "Nos Cultures," will be multicultural.  Also as part of the festival, La Slague is also putting on shows by Roger Dallaire and Daniel Gervais in Rayside-Balfour and Sudbury East Oct. 11 and 12.
