Two more COVID-19 related deaths have been reported by the Public Health Sudbury & District.

This brings the total number of local deaths to 161 since the pandemic began in March of 2020.  With one death reported last Wednesday, and four deaths reported on Friday, this means there have been seven deaths in the past seven days locally.

Both deaths occurred in Greater Sudbury.

Public Health Sudbury and District (PHSD) did not disclose any details other than to report that COVID-19 contributed to, but was not the underlying cause of the death in one case. In the other case, the official cause of death is not known at this time.

In the past two days there have been 31 new cases of COVID reported across the city.

It was also revealed there are 13 active outbreaks of COVID-19 in various venues in the city, including long-term care homes, congregate settings and three separate outbreaks at the hospital.  Health Sciences North reports 43 confirmed COVID cases in the hospital with four people in the Intensive Care Unit.
