Volunteer Sudbury is celebrating National Volunteer Week 2021 in partnership with Volunteer Canada, from April 18-24.

Now in its 47th year, National Volunteer Week is a time to recognize and celebrate the volunteer efforts made in our community and across the country.

The theme of National Volunteer week 2021 is “The Value of One, The Power of Many,” which reflects on the awe-inspiring acts of kindness by millions of individuals as well as the magic that happens when we work together toward a common purpose.

“Despite the challenges brought on by the pandemic, we’ve watched our community become more resilient, and find creative ways to continue helping each other,” said Volunteer Sudbury, in a press release.

“Volunteers have become adaptable, shifting to virtual volunteer activities, and finding unique ways to safely help their neighbours, and favourite organizations in need during this time.

“Locally, we commend volunteers in this past year who have helped our most vulnerable populations through collecting food and clothing donations, those who sewed and donated face masks, those who ran virtual activities and workshops for seniors and our isolated populations, the efforts of families who wrote thank you cards and decorated their windows for frontline workers, those who drove meal and grocery deliveries to neighbours in quarantine, those who donated blood and plasma, and those who have volunteered at the vaccination clinics, among the hundreds of other efforts that were made.

“We recognize and thank you for the powerful impact your actions have had in keeping our community strong throughout this difficult time.”

Volunteer Sudbury (VS) is a local non-profit volunteer resource centre that acts as a link between volunteers and community organizations that rely on volunteers to do the wonderful work that they do.

VS helps to promote the benefits of volunteerism through awareness and education, and is the local fixture for promoting, encouraging, developing and facilitating meaningful volunteer experiences.
