There are now 100 active, confirmed cases of COVID-19 across the North

Public Health Ontario has confirmed a record daily case count with 1,388 new cases reported today. 

On Nov. 8 the province reported 1,328 new cases, which until today was the highest ever reported in a single day. 

The province has also reported 15 deaths in the Nov. 10 report, including three people between the ages of 60 and 79 years old, and 12 people over the age of 80 years old. Eleven of the people who died were residents at long-term care facilities in Ontario.

There have been 31 more people hospitalized since yesterday's report and 11 COVID patients have been admitted to intensive care units. 

The province noted 781 recoveries today. 

Of the more than 1,300 cases reported today, 901 are individuals between 20 and 59 years old. 

According to a breakdown of the new cases by health unit, Toronto reported 520, York Region reported 100, Peel reported 395, and Halton Region reported 72 of today's cases.

There are 159 new school-related cases reported today, including 103 student cases, 23 staff cases and 33 unidentified cases. There have been 2,865 school-related cases reported by the province so far, and 936 of those have been reported in the last 14 days. There are three schools closed because of COVID cases and 601 schools across the province currently have at least one reported COVID case.

Provincial public health labs processed 29,125 COVID-19 tests since yesterday's report, and there are 27,802 tests awaiting processing. 

The number of tests completed has been gradually decreasing since the beginning of October, but the percentage of positive results has been increasing. As of data collected yesterday, approximately five per cent of the people who are tested for COVID-19 test positive. 

Currently, there are 10,106 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ontario. Of those 422 people are hospitalized, including 82 COVID patients in intensive care and 54 COVID patients on ventilators. 

To date, the province has confirmed 86,783 cases of COVID-19, and reported 73,417 recoveries and 3,260 deaths. 

Yesterday, Northern Ontario health units reported 14 new cases of the virus.

There are now 100 known active cases in the north. That’s an increase of 17 since yesterday’s report.

The breakdown for the Northern Ontario health units, at the time of today’s provincial update, is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 56 cases, rate of 48.9 per 100,000 population. There are 13 known active cases. The last cases were reported Nov. 9.
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 48 cases, rate of 37 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 50 cases. There are two known active cases. The last case was reported Nov. 9.
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 101, rate of 121 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 101 cases. There are three known active cases. The last case was reported Nov. 9.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 176 cases, rate of 88.4 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 181 cases. There are 54 known active cases. The last cases were reported Nov. 9.
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 17 cases, rate of 52 per 100,000. There are no known active cases. The last case was reported Oct. 5.
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 80 cases, rate of 91.2 per 100,000. The health unit has also reported two probable cases. There are five known active cases. The last case was reported Nov. 9.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 132 cases, rate of 88 per 100,000. The health unit has reported 140 cases. There are 23 known active cases. The last cases were reported Nov. 10.

The Ontario rate of infection is 583.8.
