Just five days into the new school year, a student has tested positive for COVID-19 at a Sudbury school.

Rainbow District School Board revealed Monday night there has been a case at R.L. Beattie Public School.

The individual is currently self-isolating and is being monitored by Public Health Sudbury and Districts. There is no evidence of transmission of COVID-19 at the school at this time, said the Rainbow board in a letter to parents.

In an "abundance of caution," staff and students in the Grade 6 class in Room 200 have been asked to self-isolate, as have students on two bus routes (morning elementary bus route N458 and afternoon elementary bus route L812).

Province-wide, there have already been 189 active cases of COVID-19 among students and staff so far this school year. One school has already been closed.
