Teesha Richard of Marathon, Ont. is still smiling about winning a $5,000 bursary Sept. 5 at Cambrian College’s first-year Orientation Week Pep Rally.

The Pre-Health Sciences student says she is very happy to receive the unexpected windfall, because this big bursary will help fund her education, allowing her to focus more on her academics, rather than her finances.

Richard says she will also benefit from additional bursaries offered to her through the college.

The $5,000 bursary is part of Cambrian College’s 2017 Choose Cambrian, Get Rewarded program. The program encourages eligible Cambrian applicants to confirm their offer of admission by May 1, which helps incoming students and the college prepare for the fall semester.

“Our 2017 ‘Choose Cambrian, Get Rewarded’ program offers a total of $18,000 to eligible full-time students,” said Renée Scott, director of student success and recruitment, in a press release.

“Every dollar that we can devote to helping students pay for tuition, food, housing, transportation, books, and supplies, supports them in their studies and contributes to their success in college.

"Student success and enhancing access to post-secondary education are key components of Cambrian’s strategic plan, and it’s always rewarding to see how sticking to our plan is changing the lives of students and graduates.”

Fall classes kicked off at Cambrian College on Sept. 6.
