The DeSimone Foot and Ankle Centre, with some help from Sudbury Skin Clinique and Pandemonium Hair Salon, have launched their sixth annual sock drive.

This initiative will compliment the ongoing shoe drive for the homeless of Greater Sudbury.

The sock drive will run for the entire month of May and socks can be dropped off to any of the three participating businesses.

DeSimone (761 Lasalle Blvd.), Dr. Giroux (336 Pine St.), Pandemonium (121 Larch St.).

All of the socks will be distributed through local social service agencies that serve the homeless community of Sudbury.

"We are especially concerned that the lack of warm, dry socks and boots creates a greater risk of foot problems for the homeless," said Julie DeSimone in a news release. "For homeless people, walking is their main means of transportation regardless of weather. The need is great for proper footgear for hundreds of men and women and children who live on the streets."

For more information, call DeSimone Foot and Ankle Centre at 705-560-FEET (3338).
