This is what it looks like when 100 kids learn CPR

One hundred École St-Denis students receive training saving lives

Students at École St-Denis were trained on hands-only CPR and AED Awareness on June 14.

The training, delivered by the Heart & Stroke Foundation, was made possible through a donation from the Brian and Susan Thomas Foundation.

Students in Grades 6 through Grade 8 received a CPR Anytime kit, which includes an instructional DVD and inflatable mannequin, to bring home and practice CPR with their families.

Dawn Charles is the area manager with the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

"The more people that are educated and provided the tools to be confident in an emergency situation, the better." Charles said.

"Doing something is better than doing nothing. You don't have to worry about steps one to 20 or mouth-to-mouth.

"It really is as simple as doing compressions with your hands."

In Canada, cardiac arrests happen every 13 minutes and can occur at any age.

Fast CPR and AED use within the first minutes doubles the chance of survival.

"It's really incredible to empower these kids to be able to help save someone's life."
