With the cooler, rainy conditions so far this week, the forest fire situation in this part of the province seems to be getting under control.

This is according to the daily fire situation update issued by the province's Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services division.

On the afternoon of Aug. 29, there were 25 active forest fires across Northeastern Ontario, all of them under control or being observed. That number has been steady for some time now.

There was one new fire confirmed Thursday. Parry Sound 46 covered 0.1 of a hectare, and was located 23 km west-northwest of Sundridge. It has already been declared out.

Parry Sound 33 remains under control at 11,362 hectares. Forest fire fighters on the ground continue to action the remaining hot spots in a co-ordinated and prioritized manner.

In order to ensure MNRF and emergency officials are able to continue fire suppression operations in areas affected by large forest fires, travel restrictions remain in place near the Parry Sound 33 forest fire.

Smoke drift from large fires in British Columbia and the United States may be evident until weather patterns change.
