Thorneloe University president Robert Derrenbacker has been elected chair of the board of trustees of the Colleges and Universities of the Anglican Communion (CUAC).

He was chosen for the position at the group's Triennial Conference in Seoul, Korea this past July.

Comprised of more than 120 institutions on all continents, CUAC is a worldwide network of Anglican colleges and universities.

It was founded for the mutual flourishing of its members through engagement with each other, with society, and with their churches, as they seek to enable their students and faculties to become active and responsive citizens in a diverse world.

Delegates of CUAC institutions, which include presidents, vice-chancellors, board chairs, and chaplains, meet every three years.

Derrenbacker has served on the CUAC board of trustees since 2011.

The board includes members from Australia, India, England, the United States, Liberia, Korea, Japan and Canada. It meets on a monthly basis, usually by SKYPE, to discuss the business of CUAC.

Derrenbacker is a priest in the Anglican Church of Canada (Diocese of Algoma). He has a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies from the University of Toronto and has published numerous academic articles, essays and reviews, as well as book on the New Testament Gospels.

He has taught Biblical Studies at the University of St. Michael’s College (Toronto), St. Peter’s Seminary (London, Ontario), Regent College (Vancouver), and Tyndale Seminary (Toronto), where he also served as Associate Dean.

He has been President of Thorneloe University since 2009, and has just been renewed for another five-year term.

Situated on the campus of Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario, and affiliated with the Anglican Church of Canada since 1961, Thorneloe University is home to the undergraduate departments of Classics, Religious Studies, Theatre Arts, and Women’s Studies. It also hosts programs in Motion Picture Arts and Theology.
