Health Sciences North was pushed to reschedule 26 surgeries on Feb. 14, after a power outage at the Ramsey Lake Health Center Thursday evening.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Thursday evening, Greater Sudbury Utilities lost power to the Ramsey Lake Health Center.

"When a power outage occurs, HSN’s backup generators immediately kick in to ensure electricity to our operations until power is restored," said HSN spokesperson Jason Turnbull in an email to Sudbury.com.

"While impact to our operations is usually minimal during these events, the outage led to a backup of moisture in our operating room where we store surgical instruments and operating room supplies."

Health Sciences North has processes in place to ensure equipment impacted that poses any risk to patients is removed. Equipment that was impacted was sent for cleaning and re-sterilizing.

While all emergency surgeries and procedures will continue, 26 non-urgent scheduled surgeries for Friday will be rescheduled.

The hospital apologized for any inconvenience this causes our patients and families.
