"I tell you, Tony V's, they make one of the best pizza pies I've ever had."

Premier Doug Ford boasted about the locally owned pizza restaurant during an interview with KiSS 105.3/92.7 ROCK news director Nick Liard this morning on the air.

Tony V's owner Ryan Nesci told Sudbury.com that he appreciated the Premier and his team for stopping by the restaurant.

Since it was a group reservation, Nesci didn't know what Ford had on his pizza but said the group was great to deal with and they are welcome back anytime.

Despite only being able to reopen half of the dining room and the patio season coming to an end, Nesci said the restaurant's take-out business has remained strong during the pandemic.

During the interview with Liard on Friday, Ford not only applauded the family run business but also recognized the residents of Greater Sudbury, among other northern regions, for following guidelines and keeping COVID-19 cases low.

"By the way, the people of Sudbury are absolute champions," Ford told Liard.

"They follow the protocols and guidelines of the local chief medical officer and that's the reason there's no cases up here. We are concerned about larger urban centres like Toronto and Peel."

Liard also asked the Premier about the first week of school, bus driver shortages and Halloween. Listen to the full interview here.
