The summer is starting to wind to a close, and with the seasonal shift comes the potential for significant fall-like storms.

Much of Ontario is expected to get hit with some severe weather on Tuesday, but it's not all bad news as areas of Northeastern Ontario that have been affected by forest fires could see a significant amount of rainfall.

Given the expected track of the low pressure system, some of the heaviest rain -- up to 100 mm -- is likely to fall east of Georgian Bay, including the region impacted by the Parry Sound 33 fire, which started on July 18 and still sits at more than 11,000 hectares in size.

As of around 11 a.m. on Monday, The Weather Network (www.theweathernetwork.com) was tracking the storm to bring a triple threat of storm conditions to southern Ontario, with thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy rain to move through the area Tuesday and into Wednesday.

"The extent and severity of Tuesday's thunderstorms will depend a lot on how much clearing we see through the earlier part of the day, ahead of the main pulse of energy with the system," said a The Weather Network in a news release.

"If we do see that clearing -- and the heating from the sun that goes with it -- we could see some very strong thunderstorms over parts of southern Ontario, as there will be ample upper level support to fuel long-lived storms. Hail, damaging wind gusts, and even isolated tornadoes will all be possible on Tuesday if morning conditions work out in favour of added heating."

Tuesday's storm will bring some of the coolest temperatures we've seen in some time, and they are expected to persist through Wednesday. The high for Tuesday in Sudbury is forecast to hit 20, with the evening low getting all the way down to 10 degrees C.

The high for Wednesday will be around 23, dipping back down to 11 by the evening. The temperature will rebound later in the week however, with highs in the mid 20's and lows creeping back up to around 17 by Saturday.
