For more than five years, Torontonians and Sudburians have gathered together in the heart of downtown Toronto to celebrate the Nickel City.

Since the first Toronto Celebrates Sudbury event took place in 2011, more than $150,000 has been raised for local charities. During a special presentation at the Sudbury Wolves game on Feb. 17, a donation of $50,000 was made to Cinéfest Sudbury, NEO Kids Foundation and Science North.

What started as a way to bring Sudburians living in Toronto together, has now become an annual event that even local Sudburians look forward to attending. The $50,000 donated was a collection of funds raised from the last two Toronto Celebrates Sudbury events.

“We are so proud to be able to represent Greater Sudbury and provide funds for this ever-growing city” said Perry Dellelce, Toronto Celebrates Sudbury Co-Chair.

“The $50,000 we have raised over the past two years is a reminder of the adoration that people have for our community. We look forward to continuing to raise the bar with this year’s event.”

“As the largest City in Northern Ontario, Greater Sudbury is a home to numerous people from across our province,” said Jamie Lamont, Toronto Celebrates Sudbury Co-Chair.
“Over the past few years, we have had the unique opportunity to not only bring these people together, but to also give back to distinct local organizations who are all striving to make a difference.”

This year’s event will be taking place on Nov. 9 at Globe Bistro, a Toronto based restaurant with a local neighbourhood feel. Owned by Sudbury native Ed Ho, Globe Bistro is known for its multi-course meals and distinct wine pairings served in an intimate atmosphere.

Guests will be able to come together to celebrate the community of Greater Sudbury as they indulge in signature tastes at one of Toronto’s secret gems.

“Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival is honoured to be involved in Toronto Celebrates Sudbury for 2017. We look forward to connecting with friends from both Greater Sudbury and Toronto,” said Tammy Frick, Executive Director of the festival.

“Collaborative and innovative initiatives such as this one allows Cinéfest Sudbury to continue to maintain accessible film programming in Sudbury and Northern Ontario.”

“NEO Kids Foundation is grateful for the continued support from Toronto Celebrates Sudbury,” said Patricia Mills, President of NEO Kids Foundation.

“The need for health care services and treatment options is greater now more than ever.  With support from incredible events like this, we are able to provide more services, equipment and research for children’s health care, increasing the number of patients that can stay closer to their families and to their homes in northeastern Ontario.”

“Science North is thrilled to be a Toronto Celebrates Sudbury charity recipient for 2017 and delighted that Sudburians in Canada’s largest city continue to support Canada’s second largest science centre in this way,” said Guy Labine, Science North CEO. “We applaud Toronto Celebrates Sudbury and its organizers for continuing to bring people together who want to honour Greater Sudbury and its ongoing achievements as a community.”
