Chris MacDonald of Toronto is the winner of a custom 50th anniversary edition Chevrolet Camaro 2SS convertible in a fundraising raffle at Cambrian College.

The fundraiser was a way to put much-needed funds into the hands of students in financial need while celebrating Cambrian’s 50th anniversary.

The grand prize winner was selected through a random draw held at a community BBQ and celebration on campus.

The fundraising initiative raised $80,000, which will be distributed by the Cambrian College Foundation to students through scholarships and bursaries.

“This fundraiser was an exceptional initiative that highlights our focus on supporting student access to post-secondary education,” said Cambrian College president Bill Best.

“It was made possible thanks to dedicated volunteers and our 50th Anniversary Committee Co-Chairs, Rick Fedec and Kathy Wells-McNeil, and our sponsors: Crosstown Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, GMC, as well as additional local businesses and media partners, who boosted ticket sales and promotion. We are so proud to see the results of this collaborative effort – an exciting initiative that has created a lot of buzz and will directly benefit our students.”

On Dec. 14, 2016, the college unveiled its plans to raffle off the Camaro, valued at $64,400, in partnership with Crosstown Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, GMC.

Cambrian and Collège Boréal organized a 50th anniversary community clean-up in June and Cambrian will unveil a 50th anniversary time capsule installation next month.
