The city is conducting a six-month trial to see how a fixed route TransCab service would serve residents in Dowling, Onaping and Levack.

The service would start Feb. 29. The city said in a news release the service offers greater flexibility for those who unexpectedly find themselves in need of transportation.

Unlike conventional TransCab service, which requires up to 90 minutes advance booking, passengers will board TransCab shuttles at designated locations. Shuttles will transport passengers to Greater Sudbury Transit Route 702, leaving the corner of St. Onge Street and Highway 144 at 6:40 a.m., 7:55 a.m, 3:10 p.m. and 4:55 p.m.

Return trips from Downtown Sudbury will connect with the TransCab shuttle at 7:55 a.m., 3:10 p.m. and 4:55 p.m. to bring passengers to designated locations in their communities.

For TransCabs at other times, residents can book conventional service, which offers direct transportation to and from their homes by dialing 705-522-1380 at least 90 minutes before their bus departure time.

New fixed route TransCabs are available Mondays to Saturdays, departing from the following locations: Third Avenue at Nickel Street and Third Avenue at First Avenue in Levack, the Kwik-Way and Community Centre in Onaping, and Lionel Avenue at Rheaume Street and the Valumart in Dowling.

TransCab is included with Greater Sudbury Transit fares at no extra charge. For departure times and more information, please visit www.greatersudbury.ca/transit or dial 705-675-3333.
