The funding announcement was made today at the downtown bus depot. The money is being provided by the Ministry of Transportation "as part of its commitment to support public transit services for municipalities such as Greater Sudbury," a press release stated.

“Transit riders in Greater Sudbury will have access to newer, more efficient and accessible buses,” Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci said. “The replacement of aging buses will reduce maintenance costs and provide a better public transit system for our community.”

More than $10.8 billion has been invested in public transportation across the provice, of which $19.6 million has been spent in Greater Sudbury.

According to the press release, support of the transit system has increased ridership, and reduced 91 million car trips across Ontario.
