Peter Turner took his campaign against the proposed 84-hour work week for truck drivers to truck stops in North Bay and Sudbury last week.

"Truckers don't want to drive 84 hours a week. We know all about the danger fatigue poses," Turner says, a former truck driver.

"We've told him but Transport Minister David Collenette still doesn't get it."

New highway safety regulations currently before the federal government's Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations will allow companies to demand 84 hours a week of driving time from drivers.

"Every truck driver I've spoken to is opposed to these new regulations."
Turner is gathering signatures for his petition against the 84-hour work week from drivers at truck stops across the country.

Citizens can also go to www.truckerhours.ca and express their views.

The government committee studying the issue is expected to announce its plan for public hearings shortly.
