CKLU 96.6 FM hosts its annual Pledge Week from April 25 to May 1.

To help raise funds for Greater Sudbury’s 38-year-old campus and community radio station, CKLU has a whole week of special programming — on top of its regular programming — to entice local listeners.

As part of the week, “The Case of the Missing AY Jackson,” a staged radio play featuring local performers about the two AY Jackson paintings stolen from Sudbury Secondary School in 1974, can be seen on Eastlink Community TV on Monday, April 25 at 7 p.m.

If you would like to just listen, CKLU will broadcast “The Case of the Missing AY Jackson” on Saturday, April 30 at 8 p.m. and again on May 1 at 8 p.m.

So who are the special hosts for Pledge Week?

On Monday at 4 p.m., Sudbury.com editor Mark Gentili settles into the host chair, although he was reluctant to divulge the names of his guests or, as they say in the business, his sources.

Former Sudbury Poet Laureate Chloe Laduchesse and co-host Bennett Malcolmson present “The Donovan Dispatch / La dépouille du Donovan: news and tales from your favorite neighborhood”. It's a Donovan bilingual news report, with arts and culture, sports and foreign affairs sprinkled in. Fact or fiction? Listen to find out on April 26 at 5 p.m.

Max Merrifield's name has become synonymous with Northern Lights Festival Boreal. With this being the 50th anniversary of NLFB, Merrifield “has pulled out all the stops,” CKLU said in a news release. Join him from 3-5 p.m. on April 26 for his NLFB 50th anniversary tribute.

As he returns to the air across Canada, CKLU celebrates Skip Viitala on Thursday at 4 p.m. “Skip has the distinction of being the CKLU DJ with the most years under his belt,” the station said. “Don't miss Skip's Pledge Week Ska Party.  It promises to be ska-licious.”

Peter Williams’ dulcet tones and smiling face are familiar to many in Sudbury who remember his time on CBC radio and on TV. Williams likes nothing better than a good laugh. “Join him on April 30 at 7 p.m. for an enjoyable hour of carefully engineered Peter prattling along with his favourite music. He does know how to tell a good story!”\

Commandeering the mic on May 1 at 2 p.m. is Paul Loewenberg, one of Sudbury's best known musical encyclopedias. For years, Loewenberg's show Monster a Go-Go was a CKLU mainstay.

“You never know if you'll be mesmerized by Loewenberg's history of rock and roll , R & B, soul, funk, punk or everything in between.  May 1 promises to be an unforgettable musical journey.”

Also on May 1 at 6 p.m., John McHenry and Judi Straughan talk Sudbury Theatre Centre with stories from the past 50 years. Drama occurs in every corner of theatre buildings, not just on stage. McHenry and Straughan promise to share a few tales out of school.

Christian Pelletier slides into the line-up with upbeat fun and music. Christian's impact on downtown Sudbury through the Up Here festival with its unique musical acts and mural creations is undeniable and his Pledge Week show will be second to none.

Go to CKLU.ca for the full itinerary and don't forget to make a pledge.
