Two Flour Mill homes briefly evacuated after gas line severed

Backhoe digging on driveway caused the damage

Two homes in the Flour Mill were evacuated for a short time this morning after a gas line was severed.

“The gas line has been repaired, and people are being let back in their home now,” said Platoon Chief Mike Valiquette at around 11:50 a.m.

He said the gas line was severed by a backhoe that was digging on a driveway in the area. Greater Sudbury Fire Services and Union Gas responded to the incident at Leslie and Harvey streets, which was called in just before 11 a.m.

There were no injuries, Valiquette said.
