Two new forest fires in the area, one additional ongoing since July 9

Two new fires discovered in the Northeast region late afternoon on July 10 are both under control, while Timmins 10, burning since July 9, is considered a fire of note and is still uncontrolled.

Timmins 11 is under control at 0.1 of a hectare. It is located approximately 3 kilometres northwest of Turnip Lake, and approximately 8 kilometres north of highway 560.

Wawa 5 is under control at 0.1 of a hectare, it is located north of Grasett Lake.

There are currently ten other active fires in the region. Of these, one is not yet under control, one is being held, four are under control and four are being observed.

Timmins 10, which was confirmed on July 9, is located approximately 42 kilometres southeast of Foleyet, and east of Horwood Lake. It is estimated at 110 hectares and is not yet under control. CL415 waterbombers and a lead birddog aircraft have been on scene for most of the day and they may be present until the early evening.

There are three helicopters assigned to this fire, including a belly tanking helicopter that is working alongside waterbombers performing aerial fire suppression. FireRanger crews are working to establish hoselines, and smoke will continue to be visible in the area.

The fire hazard is mostly low to moderate in areas of the region situated south of Greater Sudbury; as well as along the James and Hudson Bay coasts in the Far North portion of the Cochrane sector. The remainder of the region is presenting a mostly high hazard, with a small portion of the Cochrane sector presenting an extreme fire hazard this afternoon.
