Two Vale workers were sent to hospital May 5 after an incident at Copper Cliff North Mine.

“We confirm that an incident occurred at Copper Cliff Mine on Friday of last week, which involved a release of material from a sandfill barricade near two employees,” Vale spokesperson Angie Robson said in an email statement Wednesday.

“One employee suffered non-critical injuries. As a precaution both were taken to hospital and released. Vale and the USW are currently addressing and investigating the incident.

“The Ministry of Labour is also investigating and Vale is addressing ministry orders.”

Earlier this week, Ministry of Labour spokesperson Janet Deline said the ministry had issued two requirements for documentation from Vale following the accident. The company has already complied with one of those orders.

Two inspectors and an engineer have been assigned to assist in the ministry's investigation.
