Unifor Local 598 donates to local charities

Donations were made to Sudbury Food Bank, Geneva House and Maison McCulloch Hospice

Members of Unifor Local 598 have been donating to the Sudbury Food Bank for nearly 25 years. This year, $830 in cash and 600 pounds of food were collected at a dinner held at the Caruso Club on December 5. Altogether, cash and food donations were valued at $1,400 by Sudbury Food Bank executive director Daniel Xilon.

More than 400 Mine Mill retirees and their families enjoyed a festive luncheon at the Caruso Club, where donations were also made to Geneva House and Maison McCulloch Hospice.

Ron Michaud, chairperson of the Unifor Local 598 retired workers committee, said that seeing members spend time together was a highlight of the event. “We've got people here from Toronto from our national which come down to see us, see what goes on here,” Michaud said.

“Some of them only go out once a year, and this is the event they chose to attend. That's very good.”

Another donation to Sudbury Food Bank on behalf of Mine Mill Local 598 is expected on December 14 at the Lexington Hotel.
