Update: Stand-off ends in first-degree murder charge in Elliot Lake

Elliot Lake resident Wayne McLeod has been charged with first-degree murder following the death of 67-year-old Diane McLeod.

On Nov. 15 at 5:45 a.m., East Algoma OPP responded to a domestic disturbance call on Valley Cresent in Elliot Lake. Police reported a person was barricaded inside their home, possibly with firearms. A perimeter was established around the home and the public was warned to avoid the area.

Just after 11 a.m., Wayne McLeod, 64, exited the home and surrendered to police. The body of Diane McLeod was found inside the house. 

Details regarding the events of that day, along with cause of death, are under a publication ban.

The accused is to remain in custody until his next court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on Nov. 29.
