The awards, which recognize outstanding contributions to fire protection and prevention in Ontario, was held June 19 in Toronto.

“By helping us take our fire prevention message out into the community ... Vale helps us get the attention of children and families whose actions can make a difference,” said Tim Beadman, chief of fire and paramedic services.

Kelly Strong, Vale's vice-president of Ontario and U.K Operations said, the company's commitment to safety for the community parallels the company's commitment to safety underground.

“We are proud to be part of these important fire safety programs," Strong said, "and help young people stay safe in our community.”

Vale most recently partnered with Greater Sudbury Fire Services in the purchase of an inflatable fire safety house for use at numerous schools and community events.
