Vale has announced Ricus Grimbeek as its new chief operating officer for Canada, the UK and its Asian refineries.
Grimbeek will be based out of Sudbury.
“I’m very excited to take on this new role, and am humbled to be leading some of the most historic and prolific mining operations in the world,” said Grimbeek in a news release.
A native of South Africa and a mining engineer, Grimbeek has 30 years in the field, and extensive senior management experience as well as experience leading mining operations. Most recently, he worked for miner South 32, holding several roles over the years, including chief technology officer and president and chief operating officer. He has also worked for BHP Billiton and Lonmin in a variety of senior level safety and operational positions in Australia, South Africa and Canada.
