Denis Lessard of Val Caron saw more than Â?please play againÂ? when he rolled up the side of his coffee cup Feb. 25 on the first day of this yearÂ?s Tim Hortons Â?Roll Up the Rim to WinÂ? contest.

The Valley East man discovered he had won a grand prize GMC Envoy SLT valued at almost $50,000.

The vehicle was presented by Tim Hortons officials during a ceremony Tuesday morning at the busy franchise in the Place Val Est Mall.

Smiling along with Lessard were his wife Lynne and son Cedric.

Â?ItÂ?s so exciting to have an Envoy winner at our store,Â? said store owners Ken and Bonny Davidson.

Â?People are happy when they win a donut or a coffee, so you can imagine how thrilling it is when a customer becomes the proud owner of a vehicle or other grand prize. I guess thatÂ?s what keeps everyone rolling up those rims.Â?

Joining the Davidsons during the presentation of the Envoy was their store manager Trevor Witty.

He noted that itÂ?s nice to have a local winner and even nicer to have a winner in Valley East.

This is the 16th year of the Â?Roll Up the Rim to WinÂ? contest. Customers who buy a medium, large or extra large hot drink have an approximately one in nine chance to win from over 23 million food prizes plus grand prizes including 20 Envoys, 100 Sony home theatre systems, 500 cash prizes of $1,000 and 7,500 Tim Hortons Home Coffee Kits.

As of this week, 17 Envoys had been claimed across Canada. All vehicles are awarded with full ownership to winners, not on a leased basis as rumoured in some markets.

The contest runs while cup supplies last, however, prizes may be claimed up to the contest closing date of May 10.

There are currently over 2,000 Tim Hortons stores in Canada, including 21 in the Sudbury region, and over 140 stores in the United States, mainly in the key markets of Detroit, Buffalo and Columbus, Ohio.
