The Victim Crisis Assistance and Referral Service (VCARS) is a non-profit, community-based program, which is funded by the Ministry of the Attorney-General. There are currently 42 VCARS programs in Ontario.

The service works by dispatching specially trained teams of volunteers, known as mobile crisis response teams, to the scene of a crime or other occurrence. Police can request the teams on a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week basis.

The purpose of the teams are to provide short-term emotional support and practical assistance to victims of traffic accidents, domestic violence, elder abuse, family crisis, sexual assaults, homicides, suicides, sudden death, robberies, or other types of situations requiring this type of service.

Volunteers are being recruited from all areas of the Greater City of Sudbury and the service will be available in every region of the city.

For more information, visit the foyer of Tom Davies Square today between 10-10:30 am for the official launch of the program or call 522-6970.
