Video: Go under the big top at the Cirque de Sudbury fundraiser

Sold-out event at the Caruso Club raises thousands of dollars for the Sudbury Food Bank while showing off the skills of numerous Sudbury performers

A packed house of Sudbury Food Bank supporters were treated to a night under the big top Sept. 14 for the Cirque de Sudbury fundraiser.

Check out a video from the event below.

Fire dancing, stilt walking, gymnastics and live music, plus a five-course meal, were the order of the evening for the sold-out event that raised thousands of dollars for the food bank, which has seen usage skyrocket in recent years.

Executive Director Dan Xilon told Sudbury.com the funds are definitely important.

While the food bank has not reduced services, the fact is more resources are going out than coming in, Xilon said, and the food bank’s buying ability has been reduced as grocery prices rise, which make fundraisers like Cirque de Sudbury a necessary part of operating.

The goal, Xilon said, is for events like Cirque de Sudbury to become “a key event in the city’s social calendar.”

And with some 17,000 visits a month to the Sudbury Food Bank, becoming a key event is not only important, but necessary.

The event was presented by Apollo Restaurants. Performers included Dynamic Room, Siren the fire dancer, stilt walker Kayla Cee, GymZone Gymnastics and Athletics, earthdancers dance troupe, Sudbury Performance Group, Spotlight Dance Company, Charm Plus, Alessandro Costantini, Connected Living Yoga and Wellness with Dawn Condon and make-up by Christa Mirabelli.
