Ontario government providing front-line support to fight B.C. wildfires as state of emergency extended

Firefighters facing off against the British Columbia wildfires will soon have some assistance from Ontario's Ministery of Natural Resources and Forestry.

This afternoon, over 100 fire rangers and support personnel from the MNRF boarded a plane bound for the embattled westernmost province, as B.C.'s newly sworn-in premier John Horgan extended a state of emergency.

They will be deployed to the front lines of some of the provinces 155 wildfires that continue to rage on, which have forces thousands to flee from their homes.

The mission will last up to 19 days for this group of fire fighters, who must return home for a minimum of two-days rest before being redeployed.

Sudbury.com was on the tarmac at the ministry's facility near the Greater Sudbury Airport earlier today.
