Newton's Third Law: Watching this would-be intruder bounce off the the door at Cosmic Dave's is pretty satisfying

The Vinyl Emporium in the Donovan needs help identifying the potential intruder

A man tried to break through the door of Cosmic Dave's Vinyl Emporium early Saturday morning... by running at it full tilt. (Facebook)

Talk about “thick”. A pedestrian tried to break into Cosmic Dave's Vinyl Emporium on Kathleen Street in the worst way (or maybe the best way) possible around 5 a.m. on Saturday ... by trying to ram through it with the full force of his head and body.

It's pretty satisfying to watch the would-be intruder bounce off the door with considerable force, before popping back to his feet and running off. He didn't even put down the bag he was carrying.

Check it out below:

Video of the incident was posted to Facebook yesterday. In it, a passerby looks at the door to the record shop while walking by before returning to it with a running charge. The man hits the door and is sent flying back, no match for the 87-year-old door.

In an email, owner Mark Browning said the glass was replaced after the incident and the latch on the door has since been re-enforced. A police report has been filed and the business has asked the public to help identify the would-be intruder.

“Watch the video, and if you think you know who the guy is, tell him not to be so stupid and pull that kind of crap. Getting busted isn't worth what you'd steal outta here,” Browning said.

“Best you'd get is a turntable to hock for $50 somewhere — there's no cash in here — and you'd have to be in and out within about 20 seconds to get away with it. Not worth the heat.”

Cosmic Dave's Vinyl Emporium has been in the Donovan for 10 years and has had a few issues in that time, but nothing very serious. Browning said he understands that sometimes desperate people are out there, willing to do desperate things.

Even so, the business owner happens also to live at the location where the attempted break-in took place. As such, he is taking the incident seriously.

“I actually live in the building so, when something is going on, I'm in the store within a minute or so,” Browning said. “And trust me, you don't want to be the guy who's just broken into my store when I catch you. That much about the Donovan hasn't changed.”

In case you're curious about the headline, the third law of motion as described by Isaac Newton (you know, the guy who came up with the theory of gravity and who enjoyed parking himself under apple trees to relax) states: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
