Video: Severe storm hits Sudbury, flips trailers, snaps hydro poles, uproots trees

GSU says it could take days to get power back to all customers

High winds, hail and heavy rain that rolled into Greater Sudbury on July 9 around 5 p.m. uprooted large trees, snapped power lines and damaged property in the Flour Mill, Minnow Lake and New Sudbury areas. The storm hit particularly hard in the area of Lasalle and Montrose Avenue.

Watch the video above to see some of the damage, including a camp trailer that flipped onto its side in a lot on Lasalle Boulevard.

3,400 people were left without power overnight and Greater Sudbury Utilities says it could take up a couple days to get all the costumers reconnected.

Crews have been called in from North Bay, Sault Ste Marie and Parry Sound to help with the clean up.

Greater Sudbury Utilities is stressing that residents need to stay away from all downed or hanging power lines. Do not try to remove debris or fallen trees off of any lines. The line could be live and one touch could be fatal.
