Video: She has to shovel caterpillars off her deck

The property of Vermillion Lake resident Debi Richer has been invaded by tent caterpillars

Debi Richer, who has lived in the Vermillion Lake area for more than a decade, says she's never seen as many tent caterpillars as have invaded her backyard this year.

It's a veritable invasion.

For about a week, Richer has been busy shovelling (yes, shovelling in June!) caterpillars off the back deck of her house. Check out the video above and see the grossness for yourself!

"Thankfully they're only in the back yard, not many in our front (yard)." Richer told Sudbury.com

Sudbury.com recently posted a video with tips on how to get rid of pesky tent caterpillars, including spraying the worms with soapy water, a method Richer says she has tried with no luck.

"There's just too many." Richer said.

Richer isn't alone in her struggle. Other residents in the area have been commenting on photos that she posted on Facebook, saying they have been practically house-bound since the caterpillars moved in.

"I'll be glad once this cycle is over and they move onto a different area." Richer said.
