Runners and walkers from across Ontario and beyond hit the streets to take part in the SudburyROCKS!!! first ever virtual marathon on Oct. 25.

The campaign raised a total of $77,000 in support of the Northern Cancer Foundation (NCF). This year presented a number of challenges to the annual race such as the change of date and decision to go virtual, but the biggest hurdle came with the loss of SudburyROCKS!!! Marathon co-founder Steve Matusch to cancer on March 11.

At a press conference today announcing the total, Matusch was described as “the visionary behind the race and an inspiration to all runners and walkers of the event.”

“This year has been a great success, but it has also been very difficult,” SudburyROCKS!!! co-founder Vince Perdue said. “It’s definitely a bittersweet moment. We’re so proud of what we were able to accomplish with SudburyROCKS!!! this year, but not having Steve with us to see it and run the race is just so different. I know he would be proud of what we have achieved and of this donation to local cancer care.”

“We are grateful to the many runners, donors and community partners for coming together to make the virtual SudburyROCKS!!! Marathon a success,” HSN foundations and groups president and CDO Anthony Keating said.

“Scrolling through the numerous posts on social media, it is clear how special this event is. We are proud to be supported by the SudburyROCKS!!! Community.”

The Northern Cancer Foundation would also like to recognize the top and notable pledge earners for the 2020 SudburyROCKS!!! Marathon:
