Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon has announced the election of a new student trustee.
Élianne Bernier, a Grade 11 student at École secondaire du Sacré-Coeur (Sudbury) will succeed Mélanie Denis-Plante as student trustee for the District of Sudbury and commence her term on Aug. 1.
Committed to enriching the Francophone and Catholic space at her school, Bernier sits on the Student Parliament of ÉS du Sacré-Cœur, where she currently holds the position of Minister of Francophonie.
In addition to her active participation in school life, she sits on the FESFO representative council and contributes to the organization of provincial events and Francophone youth recruitment.
Since Grade 9, Élianne has demonstrated incredible community leadership by accumulating more than 162 hours of volunteer work. At school and within her community, she is devoted to promoting a welcoming, fun and inclusive environment for all through her involvement in health, well-being and inclusivity initiatives.
She is a member of the VIBES committee at her school (Vivre l’inclusivité et le bien-être à SAC/Live inclusiveness and well-being at SAC).
Élianne also writes for Tapage, a student newspaper produced by Le Voyageur and is part of her school’s volleyball and badminton teams.
She will be joined on the board by Lydia Raddon, a Grade 11 student at École secondaire catholique Jeunesse-Nord (Blind River), who will resume the second year of her term as student trustee for the District of Algoma in August 2025.
‘’We congratulate all students who submitted their candidacy as well as members of the Student Senate for participating in the election process,” said Suzanne Salituri, CSC Nouvelon Chair. “Elected by their peers, our two student trustees are the voice of our students and hold an important role in promoting French-language Catholic Education.”
“I have full confidence that Élianne will fulfill her duties as student representative for the Board as well as the Board’s Student Senate,” said Tom Michaud, Director of Education at CSC Nouvelon.
“We are proud of the fact that our students recognize the importance of this role and the incredible opportunity it offers them in developing their Catholic and Francophone leadership within their school and community.”
