The Dystonia Support Group of Sudbury is holding its Annual Walk and Wheel, Sunday, June 9, 2002.

The walk will be held from 10 am till noon at the Howard Armstrong Recreation Centre (formerly the Valley East Recreation Centre) at 4040 Elmview Dr. in Hanmer.

Dystonia is a neurological movement disorder that causes muscles in the body to pull or spasm. There are estimated to be about 50,000 people in Canada who have the disorder.

Participants are welcome to register the day of the walk, says Mary Guy of the local chapter of the group.

This year?s walk is in honour of Sam Belzberg, who is the co-founder of the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation, and who is a Member of the Order of Canada for Philanthrophy.

Belzberg started the foundation in Vancouver in 1976 because his daughter suffered from the disorder. The Dystonia Foundation was started with an $11 million donation from Belzberg.
