A Sudbury couple and their Peter Street home are going to be fine after a quick response from volunteer and career firefighters Saturday afternoon.

Danny Desormeaux was soldering a pipe while trying to hook up a washing machine in his front porch area when the fire started.

He and his wife, Linda, tried to no avail to get the fire under control before it went into the wall and up to the attic.

When that didnÂ?t work, the couple, both 49, left their house and took shelter in a neighbourÂ?s house.

Their two dogs joined them.

The Copper Cliff volunteer fire brigade were on the scene within minutes, and were followed quickly by Lockerby- and Van Horne-based trucks.

The fire was reportedly under the control of about a dozen fire fighters by 2:45 pm, about 15 minutes after the call to the fire department was made.
