Mercury appeared as a small black dot as it crossed between Earth and the face of the sun on May 9 - an event that only occurs about 13 times in a century.
Armed with solar filtered telescopes, members of the Sudbury Astronomy Club gathered at Science North to watch the Transit of Mercury, which began at 7:15 a.m. and ended at 2:42 p.m.
Due to its diminutive size, viewing this event required a telescope or high-powered binoculars fitted with solar filters made of specially-coated glass or Mylar.
