Sudbury’s traditional Remembrance Day service at the Sudbury Arena won’t be taking place Nov. 11 due to the pandemic, but you’re invited to tune into a virtual ceremony through YouTube.

Royal Canadian Legion branches 564 (Lockerby Legion) and 76 (Minnow Lake) teamed up with the UN Nato Veterans to film a Remembrance Day ceremony at the Memorial Park cenotaph last month.

You can view that ceremony below:

“That video is going to be cascaded to schools, to retirement homes, to long-term care facilities,” said Lockerby Legion president Jennifer Huard, in a recent interview with Sudbury.com.

“That’s to ensure everybody has an opportunity to observe remembrance this year ... Normally we’re all over the city in the week leading up to Remembrance Day, doing services and promoting remembrance and that sort of thing. We can’t do that this year.”

In terms of in-person services, several local Legions are holding limited-capacity events on Nov. 11.

The Lockerby Legion and the Minnow Lake branch will be holding limited-capacity Remembrance Day events at their branches on Nov. 11.

The Lockerby Legion’s event starts at 1 p.m., and the Minnow Lake event starts at 10:45 a.m.

The Chelmsford Legion is also holding a Nov. 11 service at the cenotaph in Chelmsford at 11 a.m.

As well, the Falconbridge-Garson Legion is hosting a ceremony at the cenotaph on Edison Road on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.
