A weapon’s complaint at a home on Orell Street in Garson resulted in a standoff with police and assault charges against a 36-year-old man, said Greater Sudbury Police.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, police were called to a home on Orell Street for a weapons complaint.

Police said one of the tenants had attended another unit within the building, banged on the door and when the resident answered, the man displayed a baton and threatened the resident. The man then returned to his unit and barricaded himself inside.

Officers arrived in the area and set up containment of the building. Officers began communications with the man, who eventually surrendered himself without incident just after 6:15 p.m.

The  man has been charged with uttering threats to cause bodily harm, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and breach of release order.

He was taken to police headquarters where he was held in custody overnight in order to attend bail court on April 1 to answer to the charges. His name cannot be released as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process.
